It is powered by the MediaWiki software, which also powers sites like Wikipedia, Gamepedia, and many other wiki sites. Agentpedia is the successor to Frontierpedia, which in turn was the successor to the TMAFE Wiki, which was also a rebranded version of Konnor88 Wiki. Konnor88 Wiki and TMAFE Wiki both used FANDOM/Wikia, with Frontierpedia/Agentpedia moving away and distancing itself from FANDOM/Wikia.

The first iteration of Frontierpedia was created on May 9th, 2019, following the idea proposed by a former TMAFE member. It used MediaWiki 1.32.0 as its wiki software and was later abandoned. The reasons for this abandonment were lack of MediaWiki knowledge among the community, lack of knowledge for non-FANDOM-based infoboxes, and overall difficulty of the original host. Frontierpedia had four more iterations afterward, with three of these being based on MediaWiki and one on FANDOM/Wikia. Frontierpedia V5 was the "tipping point" of showing that a MediaWiki-based wiki separated from FANDOM/Wikia may work. After Frontierpedia V5 was accidentally deleted, Frontierpedia V5.1 was made afterwards.

On October 8th, 2022, Frontierpedia started to experience database issues more frequently due to being built upon a glitched database, as both Frontierpedia V5.0 and Frontierpedia V5.1 used the same database despite Frontierpedia V5.0 having previously experienced issues. As a result, Frontierpedia V5.X was decommissioned and Frontierpedia V6 was created on the same subdomain the same day. Upon the creation of V6, articles deemed as high quality or important were imported to V6, with all images being imported on October 11th, 2022. A new logo was designed by former TMAFE memebr Soundcard, replacing the old Frontierpedia logo designed by former TMAFE member Cipher in 2019.

Throughout 2022-2024, Frontierpedia had taken steps to become a fully Microsoft Agent focused wiki. Throughout this two year period, old articles relating to online concepts like "e-nations" were pulled in favor of articles on Microsoft Agent characters and software. On July 31st, 2024, the TMAFE administrators approved the name change to Agentpedia. As a result, a clean installation of MediaWiki was installed alongside a new subdomain.
