The Music Scripting Helper, also stylized as the MUsic Scripting Helper (MUSH), is a program developed by Dave Higham that works alongside the Microsoft Agent Scripting Helper to allow Microsoft Agent characters to sing.[1] The user is able to choose the character through the MUSH interface, change the speed at which the character sings, raise the semi-tones to alter the key the song is sung on, and load .KAR or .MID files. A link to download some .KAR files is provided by the program itself, but the majority of the files are not archived by the Internet Archive.[2]

Usage

To use the program, the user will need to input a .KAR file that contains lyrics. However, .MID files will work with the application as well, but the "'La' the words" checkbox will need to be enabled. Once a file is selected, MUSH will convert it into a readable format for the Microsoft Agent character.

Upon completion, the program may ask for what track the user prefers. After the user confirms the track they have selected, MUSH will launch MASH if "Open MASH" is checked, and the script can then be edited or saved as a .MSH file.

Usage Options

Below is a list of options provided by MUSH and a description for each option:

  • Try to time compensate: Makes the program make better judgements of timing with notes.
  • Do note timing: Alters the speed of each note automatically.
  • Concatenate Syllables: When a word is sung over more than one note, it will turn them into the same note and join them together.
  • First Note is Bad: This will sometimes help find the data of the song if it loaded incorrectly.
  • Yet another perm: Can help correct problems in some songs.
  • 'La' the words: Uses the "la word 1" textbox as the note for MIDI files.
  • Map text: Maps the text to the Microsoft Agent character's word balloon.
  • Correct text: Changes words to make them look how they should sound.
  • Look deeper: This is to be used when words in the MIDI file are used loosely and not timed.
  • Another perm: Used to improve the timing and notes of some songs.

Usage in BlobBuddy

In BlobBUDDY, MUSH is used to generate songs for the "Blob Sings" feature.[3] Inside of BlobBUDDY's file directory, a "blobsings" folder is available where users can add MASH scripts made in MUSH as songs for Blob to sing, though it is recommended that the user removes the "Blob.Show" and "Blob.Hide" at the beginning and end of the script since Blob is already loaded when BlobBUDDY is open.

Trivia

  • Since the program does not have much documentation on its website, the program needs more research on its usage.
  • The "Legal trademarks" inside the version of the program states "Trespassers will be bitten".
  • The dog in the icon of the program is named Pepe.
  • The creator of the program, Dave Higham, also made the Blob Microsoft Agent character.
    • Alongside Blob, Dave Higham also created the Pepe, Bruce, and Bone Microsoft Agent characters.
  • The max amount of characters displayed in MUSH's "Choose Character" dropdown menu is 201.
