Dot is a Microsoft Agent and Microsoft Actor character by Microsoft Corporation. Dot came with both Microsoft Bob and Microsoft Office 97 as a Microsoft Actor and in Microsoft Office 2000, XP, and 2003 as a Microsoft Agent. He was part of the Office Assistant feature of Microsoft Office, which allowed for an animated character to assist the user or answer questions. His appearance is a red dot.

Use in Microsoft Bob

With the release of Microsoft Bob 1.00a, new assistants were introduced, one of which was the Dot. This variant of the Dot had different animations compared to the Dot actor used in Microsoft Office 97, as the Dot ACT file used in Office 97 was updated to have similar animations to other Office Assistants.

Dot was one of the only assistants to have an actual port from Microsoft Bob to Microsoft Office, receiving new animations that followed the same style as other Office Assistants. He appeared when ever the program determined the user could be assisted. For example, typing an address followed by "Dear" would cause the Assistant to appear with the message, "It looks like you're writing a letter. Would you like help?"
