TMAFE is a Microsoft Agent community formed on May 25th, 2018, and is the largest active Microsoft Agent community. It primarily focuses on Microsoft Agent characters and their development, and the publishing of Microsoft Agent content on various online platforms, including videos, articles, and other forms of media.

Since 2019, TMAFE has maintained the TMAFE.COM domain, which is the primary distribution method for Microsoft Agent character files (more than 20,000)[1] and various Microsoft Agent programs that are no longer available for download,[2] alongside presiding over development of various new ones such as BlobBUDDY in 2023 and BonziBUDDY Rewritten in 2024.[3]

Throughout its existence, many discoveries in Microsoft Agent have been made, including information on various unreleased versions, information on Microsoft Agent file formats, information on Microsoft Actor, the discovery of previously unknown characters developed before the 2010s, and regained interest in Microsoft Agent software development.

History

The history of TMAFE began in May 2018, with the collapse of the previous YouTube Microsoft Agent Community (2015-2018). Following the removal of the former community leader, TMAFE was formed on May 25th, 2018 as the previously existing rules were regarded as strict by various Microsoft Agent content creators. When it was initially formed, TMAFE was known as "The Microsoft Agent Frontier Empire", a direct result of heavy-mapping influence on the community, with this full-name identity being phased out gradually over the course of the community's existence.

From 2018-2021, TMAFE required its members to follow a set of rules, the "constitution" (another result of mapping influence), which is a custom that began with the formation of the previous Microsoft Agent Community on YouTube. However, these rules were made defunct in 2022. Many of these rules were implemented to please members of the former community, with a lot of them being carried over to ensure a peaceful transition.

Additionally, as a result of TMAFE being an "e-nation" (virtual community that is structured like a nation), TMAFE was well-known in the Microsoft Agent and Mapping spheres for being a participant in virtual conflicts. The longest of these conflicts, the Anti-Mapping conflict, had TMAFE involvement from June 10th, 2019 to 2023, following attacks by "anti-mapping raider groups" on both Microsoft Agent and Mapping community members. TMAFE would withdraw from this conflict officially in 2023, marking the end of TMAFE involvement in online conflicts.

Throughout the 2020s, TMAFE would further emphasize the shift from a mapping-influenced "e-nation" to a community by creating a website, removing the majority of "e-nation" style elements, rebranding titles that were previously used (such as "Monarch"), and rebranding projects like Frontierpedia to Agentpedia. This transition was officially considered complete on August 3rd, 2024, following Frontierpedia's successful rebranding, the TMAFE abbreviation being used instead of the previous mapping-esque name, and various internal structure changes that occurred over the previous years.

In 2020, TMAFE created a Microsoft Agent character file uploader for the community, following community-feedback on other upload services featuring advertisements and/or not providing a direct download link. Previously, the majority of character downloads were hosted on services MediaFire and Google Drive.

In 2023, BlobBUDDY was released on TMAFE's website, and resulted in developers regaining interest in the development of Microsoft Agent programs, many of which subsequently became available on TMAFE.COM, such as BonziBUDDY Rewritten, MaxALERT Reimagined, PeedyBUDDY, and XP Search Assistant Rewritten, further transitioning the community into a proper technology space.

Software

The following maintained products are officially published by TMAFE and developed by TMAFE for use on the website. Members who develop a software program are eligible to have it released on the products page with TMAFE branding.

Occasionally, non-Microsoft Agent related products are made available if they are particularly useful, primarily to bring potential attention to Microsoft Agent technology that is used in the majority of software available on TMAFE.COM.

  • Anti-Grabify - In 2019, TMAFE developed the browser extension "Anti-Grabify" (formerly Anti-Protonian) to combat the use of IP-stealers online, a problem that plagued the mapping community at the time. Anti-Grabify ended up becoming the most successful TMAFE product, being recommended by Google and used by over 4,000 users as of 2026.[4][5][6]
  • TenStartMenuFixer - In 2021, TMAFE developed the program TenStartMenuFixer to restore Windows 10 start menu functionality in early builds of Windows 11. Before being patched by Microsoft, various outlets covered the product.[7][8]
  • Discord WEBP to PNG - In 2025, a browser extension that converts WEBP to PNG automatically for Discord was released to allow easier saving of images on the platform.[9]

Trivia

  • TMAFE was formed on May 25th, 2018.
  • TMAFE would be considered the fourth Microsoft Agent community, being preceded by the Microsoft Agent Newsgroups (first community), the Microsoft Agent Characters Yahoo Group (second community), and the Microsoft Agent Community on YouTube (third community).
  • TMAFE is the second community to not be directly influenced by the original two communities, instead being influenced by the Mapping community while the preceding Microsoft Agent community was notoriously heavily influenced by the Vyond community.
  • Before TMAFE created its website, most of the community activity was on platforms such as YouTube and Discord.
  • TMAFE previously used a flag instead of a logo from 2018-2021.
    • However, the logo is a circular-stylized version of the previous flag.
    • On a vote to change the logo post-modernization efforts, the community voted overwhelmingly no, with 100% of the votes going to no.
  • TMAFE previously used the title of "Monarch" to refer to the leader, a result of mapping-influence and the previous Microsoft Agent community using the term "president" to refer to its leader.
  • Despite TMAFE's efforts to transition to a full community from a "virtual nation", TMAFE still enjoys relatively good relations with the Mapping community.
    • In 2023, when TMAFE maintained a portion of the mapping community (via the "Global Mapping Station"), the demographics of TMAFE were as follows: 40.1% Mapping-affiliated, 37.0% Microsoft Agent-affiliated, 17.5% Technology-affiliated, with the rest classified as unknown. As of 2025, this percentage has gradually declined, with mapping-affiliated membership estimated to be around 15-20% of TMAFE according to role data from the TMAFE community group on Discord.
  • TMAFE's website hosts the largest repository of Microsoft Agent character files, featuring over 20,000 of these files.
  • Overtime, TMAFE evolved into a proper community focused on digital preservation and software development.
