BonziBUDDY Rewritten is a freeware desktop application that utilizes Microsoft Agent technology developed in 2024. It was created by MadCreeper7611 and released on TMAFE.COM on October 3rd, 2024. [1] The program is a virus-free version of the original BonziBUDDY program by Bonzi Software as the original is known for being a malware.
Differences from the original
- BonziBUDDY Rewritten's Speak Window has multiple button for him to speak in 4 different voices, which are Normal (labeled as Speak), Whisper, Think, and Monotone. There is also a reset button, in case his voice glitches out, and also stop button. The original just has "Speak" and "Close" buttons.
- BonziBUDDY Rewritten's calendar just uses a big version of the Windows Forms calendar. Unlike BonziBUDDY Rewritten, the original BonziBUDDY uses a custom made calendar for saving/editing appointments, tasks, or events.
- The original BonziBUDDY has 7 wooden buttons at the left side of the main form, which are labeled "Home", "Entertainment", "Sports", "Travel", "Games", "Finance". If the user was to click these buttons, it would redirect the user to different sections of the original Bonzi Software website. The rewritten version has 4 buttons, with only 1 of them being from the original software, and the other 3 being fanmade. They are labeled "Home", "TMAFE Home", "Get BlobBUDDY", and "Get MaxALERT Rewritten", with "Get PeedyBUDDY" being introduced in version 2.1.
- The original BonziBUDDY lacks the features that the rewritten has, such as the Themes, About Window, Play Animations Screen, the Stop Actions, and the "Run .MSH" option. While BonziBUDDY Rewritten, lacks the E-Mail features, Talking Addon Module, and the Entertainment Center with it being replaced with just the "Play Audio" feature.
- The wooden button on the top right of the screen of the original had the words "Check for New Add-ons.", while the rewritten version has the words "Check for Updates..." instead.
- The storybook files in the rewritten version are stored in XML, while the original stores the storybook's code in binary and decompiled through the story reader.
- The original program was created in Visual Studio 6.0, and was written in Visual Basic 6.0. BonziBUDDY Rewritten 2.5 was created in Visual Studio 2008 and written in Visual Basic .NET, with former versions being made in Visual Studio 2022 and written in C#.
Community impact
The release of BonziBUDDY Rewritten was a major success. If BlobBUDDY's success was to be a boulder, BonziBUDDY Rewritten's success would be an asteroid. The program would gain many YouTube videos made about it, including a video from ToadBup talking about the BonziBUDDY program, and testing it on windows.[2] The success of BonziBUDDY Rewritten would lead to the development of PeedyBUDDY, a malware free remake of the 1999 BonziBUDDY which utilizes Peedy instead of Bonzi, and Kinito After Story, a fanmade continuation of the KinitoPET game.
BonziBUDDY Rewritten will soon gain the attention of CryptoNWO,[3] a YouTuber who ended up popularizing BlobBUDDY by featuring him in a Desktop Pets Tier List video.[4] The current version of BonziBUDDY Rewritten is Version 2.8, released on November 16th, 2025.

Trivia
- CosmicToons designed most of the program's UI and provided the majority of the dialog.
- In older versions, by clicking on the dot in the "i" on the word "Bonzi" in the About window, the user will be redirected to https://www.bonzibuddy.tk/.
- The site was originally a forums site where users specifically discussed about Bonzi, but in 2016, the site was shutdown, with it making a full and final shutdown in June 2025.
- BonziBUDDY Rewritten is one of the 2 programs that were developed by MadCreeper7611 instead of Konnor88, with the other program being PeedyBUDDY.
- Sometime in September 2024, MadCreeper7611 had lost the source code to the original BonziBUDDY Rewritten, and had to end up recoding it from scratch from September to October.
- BonziBUDDY Rewritten was originally coded in C#, but was soon converted to VB to help Konnor88 develop BlobBUDDY and also play a role in developing BonziBUDDY Rewritten.
- Unlike most other TMAFE programs, BonziBUDDY Rewritten has a site dedicated to it.[5]
- The "sing songs" feature used to work by finding the song's .wav file the "Songs" sub directory and then playing it, but in version 2.5 and later, to save up storage, the songs were spoken through TTS like the original program. This meant BonziBUDDY could sing any audio/song on versions prior to 2.5, though after the update, the user can no longer have BonziBUDDY sing any song.
- The Story Reader feature was originally in the first version of BonziBUDDY Rewritten, though it originally did not feature a seperate Story Reader program, and instead was built into the original program. The feature was removed after the program got remade from scratch cause of how complex it originally was, but was re-added in version 2.0.
