Use in Microsoft Office

Earl was one of the selectable Office Assistants in Office 98. He would appear when ever the program decided the user could be assisted. For example, typing an address followed by "Dear" would cause the Assistant to appear with the message, "It looks like you're writing a letter. Would you like help?"

Trivia
- Earl is the only MacOS Assistant to have a known Microsoft Agent version.
- However, Earl's Microsoft Agent character is a Microsoft Agent 1.5 character.
- There are no known Microsoft Agent 2.0 versions of Earl.
- Earl was one of the five assistants originally being exclusive to MacOS, the other four being Max, Bosgrove, F1, and Rocky.
- Despite having a known Microsoft Agent 1.5 version, his character was not featured in Office 2000 unlike F1 and Rocky.
- It is unknown why Earl's description and extra data was removed in his Microsoft Agent version, or if the Microsoft Agent version of Earl was also developed by Microsoft.
- Ironically, in Windows XP, there was a search assistant of the same name, but is an entirely different character from Earl.
