Manma Chan is a Microsoft Agent character developed by Microsoft Corporation. However, unlike other Office Assistant characters, Manma Chan was not pre-installed, but was instead from a limited-time campaign from Microsoft Japan in which they mailed the a CD to those who purchased a copy of Office 2000 Upgrade Edition during a promotional period. He was part of the Office Assistant feature of Microsoft Office, which allowed for an animated character to assist the user or answer questions. Despite his appearance, Manma Chan is not a dog, but is instead an alien that is shaped like a dog.

Use in Microsoft Office

Manma Chan could be selected as an Office Assistant Microsoft Office 2000 once installed from the promotional disc. As with other Office Assistants, he appeared whenever the program determined the user could be assisted. For example, typing an address followed by "Dear" would cause the Assistant to appear with the message, "It looks like you're writing a letter. Would you like help?"
