MaxALERT was a freeware desktop application that utilizes Microsoft Agent technology. It was developed by Bonzi Software in 2003, who was also the developer of BonziBUDDY. It would announce late breaking virus and hacker news to the user, and also inform the user about hacker attempts from all around the globe. It was discontinued in 2004 with BonziBUDDY after adware and spyware controversies.

Usage

Not much is known about the MaxALERT Program. Due to Bonzi Software shutting down entirely in 2008, the MaxALERT program and ACS were lost. It was not until 10 years later the ACS for MaxALERT, as well as the installer were found. However, the original program remains lost media, as the installer worked by downloading and installing files off of the BonziBUDDY servers, instead of them being stored directly in the executable file. Even though the program is still lost, it would be likely it would have work similar to InternetALERT 99, which is another Bonzi Software program.

Trivia

  • MaxALERT was the 5th program that was released by Bonzi Software.
  • It is implied that MaxALERT could have used McAfee to protect the user against malware, due to the header of the website once saying "Let MaxALERT and McAfee Protect Your PC!".
  • It is likely that the original MaxALERT program was also malware.
